Our aim

Is to help educate the community in the historical events surrounding the Stotfield Disaster of 1806, a hugely significant point in the formation of the town of Lossiemouth as it is today, not least from the point of view of the influx of population following the disaster and the building of the harbour.

We will involve the schools and community groups in the telling of the story and provide a starting point for the geography and history of our part of the coastline. We will also provide a permanent educational focal piece in the form of the memorial which is dedicated all the souls from Lossiemouth and her coastal community who have lost their lives at sea.

And finally..

The memorial will be dedicated to ALL those souls from Lossiemouth and the wider coastal community who have lost their lives at sea and whose number would have been greater were it not for the bravery of our emergency & rescue services and other individuals. Your help, in any form, will be greatly appreciated.
